Purpose – Legal framework

The General Hospital of Corfu “AGIA IRINI”, which falls under the provisions of Law 2592/1953 “On the Organization of Medical Care” (A’ 254) in accordance with article 7 of Law 3329/2005 (A’ 81), as amended and in force, is a Legal Entity of Public Law (LPDD) which is subject to the control and supervision of the Governor of the 6th Health Region of Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece and is governed by the provisions of the said law, bears the name “General Hospital of Corfu “AGIA IRINI”.
The headquarters of the Hospital is the city of Corfu.

The purpose of the Hospital is:

1. The provision of Primary and Secondary health care, as well as care in the field of Mental Health, to the population under the responsibility of the Administration of the 6th Y.P. E. Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece, as well as to patients referred by other D.Y.PE. The enlightenment, prevention and extension of social care in the field of Mental Health. Health care is provided equally to every citizen regardless of their economic, social and professional status, in accordance with the rules of the National Health System and Social Security.
2. The specialization, continuous education and training of doctors, nurses and other health professions, with the development and implementation of similar educational programs.
3. The development and promotion of research in the field of health. In this direction, it implements and develops research programs and collaborates with other relevant bodies, as well as international organizations, scientific and research centers.
4. The collaboration with the hospitals and other health units of the health region for the overall development and upgrade of the health care provided and in particular with regard to the implementation of educational programs, as well as special programs for the study and evaluation of issues related to the field of health in the Administration of the 6th Ministry of Health of the Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece.
5. The implementation of new methods and forms of care, with the aim of effectively promoting the health of citizens.
6. The development of procedures that facilitate the strategic goals set by the Ministry of Health, the Administration of the 6th Ministry of Health of the Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece and the Board of Directors of the Hospital.
7. The development and promotion of medical research.

The administrative bodies of the Hospital are:

1. The Board of Directors.
2. The Hospital Administrator.

The above bodies are governed by the provisions of
article 7 of Law 3329/2005, as in force.
